How to read the labels
Class year
Fr/So friendly the posting mentions first- or second-year students, rising juniors, all class years, or a 2029 to 2030 graduation date. Juniors+ it asks for junior or senior standing, an earlier graduation, or a graduate degree. Class year not stated it does not say.
Flags
US citizen US person / PR ITAR / export Clearance No visa sponsorship come from the posting text. Equal-opportunity boilerplate that merely mentions citizenship status is ignored.
Dates and links
Dates are the employer's publish date when the job board provides one, otherwise the day First Silicon first saw the role. Every title links to the original posting; apply there.
Programs open before junior year

Questions
What is First Silicon?
A free, filterable list of every hardware, electrical, embedded and semiconductor internship and co-op on the public job boards (Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby) of 87 hardware-heavy employers. Once a day it reads those boards, keeps the internship and co-op postings that look like hardware work, and labels each one by discipline, class year and citizenship.
Can freshmen and sophomores get hardware internships?
Some postings say so directly. In the September 24, 2026 update, 4 of 191 did: they mention first-year or sophomore students, rising juniors, all class years, or graduation in 2029 or 2030, and get the Fr/So friendly label. 172 do not state a class year at all. "Class year not stated" means exactly that: apply unless the posting asks for junior or senior standing or a graduation date you can't meet.
How are the class-year labels decided?
From the posting text. Fr/So friendly: it mentions first-year, freshman, sophomore, second-year, rising sophomore or junior, all class years, or a 2029 to 2030 graduation date. Juniors+: it asks for junior or senior standing, graduation by 2027 or 2028, or a graduate degree. Anything else is "not stated". The label can be wrong, so each role has a "Why these labels?" excerpt.
What does "No citizenship or export flags" hide?
Roles whose posting mentions U.S. citizenship, U.S. person or permanent-resident status, ITAR or export control, or a security clearance. No flag does not prove there is no restriction; some employers only mention it in the application.
How often is the list updated?
Once a day by an automated job. Roles that disappear from an employer's board are removed on the next run. "New this week" means First Silicon first saw the role in the last 7 days and, when the employer lists a publish date, it was posted within the last 14 days.
Which employers are included, and which are missing?
Employers whose public job boards run on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby. Employers on other hiring systems, such as Workday or iCIMS, are not included yet. The full list is on the How it works page.
